What happens when your immune system is too strong?

It is important to have a healthy immune system.  But sometimes an immune response can be to strong and can lead to death.  Explain how this happens, what can trigger this strong response, and how scientists are able to help stop the overly strong immune response after reading the sciencedaily.com article:  Research Could Lead to Way to Halt Deadly Immune Response

  1. An injury in the brain called referfuge damages the brain cells and can kill hte brain. Scientists discoverd how to stop it by a shell of a virus. They also discovered that this same virus can help oxygen-deprived children at birth. This virus can help people in armies and when they have serious injuries. It is also a big benefit towards modern medicine and helpful treatments.

  2. Scientists are making big contributions by finding out that a virus can help save trauma patients. The immune system though can kill if its too strong because it could kill important cells even if they don't have a really bad pathogen in them. Immune sytems are good but if they are too strong they can kill without a good reason.

  3. Having a good, strong, healthy immune system is good, but having one that is too strong is one of the most common killers in many human bodies. Many doctors are spending their whole career trying to find a way to stop this immune system reaction to harmful things. The immune system responds to anything that could threaten, seriously injure, or kill the host and tries to stop it. If the response wasn’t as strong for some people, it could save many lives especially people serving in the army/military. Although if we did not have an immune system strong enough to support our body, we would die.

  4. Immunity is very important to a human being. Without immunity our body will get affected by ever y bacteria and virus our body comes in contact with. But when the virus is new to your body it has the potential to kill you. That why they have artificial immunity called vaccine. The immunity has some unpleasant features. Like in the article it talks about how sometimes a human’s immune e system is too strong and it is lethal to the person.

  5. A human's immune system is one of their best defenses but as I learned it could also be one of your worst defenses. An immune system that is too strong in some cases can end up killing you. For example in a tramatic car accident a human will be tramatized still surving the first 24 hours but your immune system can start killing all of your organs after being stabilized. Scientists have stopped this by using an astrovirus cell which stops the complement reaction. This some what relates to what we are learning in class because it shows how your immune system detroys something your body might not recognize, in this case its organs but can be viruses or bacteria

  6. An immune system is crucial but one too strong is harmful. When an immune system is out-of-control, it can destroy organs after someone has suffered trauma. Scientists have learned to stop this response using a shell of a virus. The viral shell stops the complement process.

  7. A strong immune system is very important to survival. This is iteresting because have an immune system that is too strong can kill a person. If the immune system gets out of control and becomes too strong it can kill organs after being traumatized. Scientists have found a way to stop this from happening by using a shell of a virus. This can help many people that may suffer from trauma especially people in the army.

A healthy immune system is vital to all living organisms. As seen in the devastating results of reperfusion injury, however, an immune response can sometimes be so strong as to be life threatening. Specifically, following some sort of trauma, cell re-oxygenation triggers a complement system that seeks out and destroys partially damaged cells that might otherwise survive. This process, called reperfusion injury, is dangerous. In heart attacks, the resulting death of heart cells is irreversible and lethal. In the case of hypoxia, the result is brain injury or death. Finally, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome caused by reperfusion injury is the leading cause of death in surgical and early trauma patients. Laboratory research has now shown that it may be possible to stop the complement cascade (or chain reaction) leading to this destructive response. Specifically, introduction of the shell of a virus that causes childhood diarrhea (astrovirus) disrupts the main activation pathway leading to the deadly complement cascade. Moreover, the shell also impedes a second major signal called the lectin pathway. Therapeutic applications are now being planned with the hope of one day eliminating most reperfusion injuries.

  9. A healthy immune system is important to the survival of all living things. On the other hand, an immune system that is too strong is a common killer especially in wars. People are trying to find a way to stop this response. For many people, they spend their whole career trying to solve this problem. They have finally solved this problem by using a shell of a virus.

  10. Having an immune system, is good for your body because the immmune system fights off, viruses that can kill us, and bacteria. But sometimes our immune system has a strong response towards vaccines or other chemicals , and most of the time it has symptoms that can kill us. But now since scientists have found a way to help us not die from our own immune response the shell virus which kills off the T-cells and the B-cells that are hurting our body.

immune systems helps the body out a plethora.it kill sicknesses and helps our body stay healthy. if the immune system where to get too strong then it is called autoimmunity. people die from this beacause it can give our body alot of problems such as cancer or an heart attack.

  12. The immune system reacts to unwanted organisms, so it is helpful, but sometimes harmful. If your immune system reacts to strongly, it can end u[ killing many cells in your body. Scientists are finding ways to temporarily reduce the immune systems reaction to try and save lives.
