How do nerve cells grow?

We are starting our next unit with the nervous system.  We have looked at the shape of a neuron and will learn more about neurons in our notes on Tuesday.  Scientists have just recently discovered how nerve cells grow.  Read the following article about this research.  How Nerve Cells Grow: Researcher Decodes Molecular Process That Controls Growth of Nerve Cells 

How do nerve cells grow?  What are the parts of a neruon?  When do most of the nerve cells in your brain develop?

  1. In order for a nerve cell to grow it needs to be linked with all of the other extentions that we have. basicaly its works the same way tht a person grow. the growth of the nerve system need tobe controlled other wise it can grow to big or it can not grow the enough size.

  2. Nerve cells have extensions called dendrites that send messages to the brain. These are carefully developed by a cytoskeleton within the dendrite. Most neurons are formed during embryonic stages or infancy. Nedd4-1 is an enzyme that usually causes the degradation of protein components. In the dendrites, however, it prevents the degradation. This enzyme sends a message to the cytoskeleton that prevents it from disintegrating. Without this protein, the existing dendrites would collapse and new dendrites would not be able to form.

  3. Most nerve cells develop during embryonic stages or infancy. Extensions from the nerve cells called dendrites also form with nerve cells. Dendrites are developed with the help of a cytoskeleton and help deliver messages from nerve cells to the brain. Dendrites also use an enzyme called Nedd4-1 in order to prevent degration. Nedd4-1 usually causes degeneration in other cells.

  4. Nerve cells grow when you are an infant or during the embryonic stages. Dendrites are extensions of nerve cells, which send messages to the brain. They also prevent the degradation. The degradation is caused by Nedd4-1 (an enzyme).

  5. Nerve cells form dendrites to receive signals from other cells in your body. Dendrites must be accurately controlled though. They are controlled by influencing the structure of the cytoskeleton, which is inside of it and controls the shape and extension. I think it’s great that Hiroshi Kawabe is dedicated enough to research and study the ways to prevent dismemberment of the cytoskeleton and the collapse of the dendrites. He does this by discovering the Nedd4-1 enzyme. Thanks to him, there is a way to prevent the collapsing of the cytoskeleton inside dendrites.

  6. The function of a nerve cell, or "neuron" as scientists normally call it, is to carry information in the brain. An example of using our nerve cells are our reflexes. When we put our hands closer and closer to a hot stove, the information of heat is sent to one of our nerve cells and is sent to the spinal cord, telling the hand to do not touch the stove or it will burn it. A neuron has three basic parts, the cell body, the axon, and the dendrites. A thin nerve membrane surrounds the entire cell.

Dendrites, which are small extension on the neurons also help develop these cells as well as helping send messages from the cells to the brain. A neuron's structure includes a cell body, dendrites, and the axon which is covered by a myelin sheath.

  8. When you are an infant yor bodies nerve cells develop during the embryonic stage. The allow you to function. Dendrites ar branched extensions that recieve information from other cells.Unfortunatley in some cases the the cytoskeleton ( which keeps the dendrites in place)dismembers and the dendrites can collapse. Luckily,Hiroshi Kawabe has dedicated alot of time into ffinding an enzyme called Nedd4-1 that has helped to prevent this problem.

  9. Nerve cells develop dendrites. During the growing of the dendrites in the human brain, dendrites take place during the embryonic and infantile brain development. Dendrites then grow many nerve cells in the brain. The brain cells control everything of the body. For example breathing or moving. A large number of signal processes controls the growth of the dendrite. Nerve cells can also form dendrites without Nedd4-1. Neurons are the main components in the nervous system, which include the brain and spinal cord. Most neurons receive signals from the brain and the spinal cord. A neuron consists of a cell body, the dendrites, and the axon.
