Biodiversity in Peril, the U.N. Warns

Parrots are in peril, the planet is in peril.... now biodiversity is in peril.  What does peril mean?  Read the following article and watch the video:  Biodiversity in Peril, the UN warns.  Why are we dependent on biological resources?  What can we do?  What is the good news?

  1. The word peril means that it is in danger of or loss in. we are dependent on biological resources such as food supplies. Also air quality and water purification. We depend to the environment for all of this. 25 percent of medicines are still used from plants. There is a loss of habitat and a excess of over using resources. What we can do is have biodiversity strategies to use.

  2. Peril means that something is in danger or something is running out of. We are dependent on many biological things like animals because they balance the earth. The illegal trade and global environment change is "causing" many species to be dieing out and going extinct. There is no good news about this.

  3. Peril means forthcoming danger or even disclosure to the jeopardy of harm or loss. It also involves risk or even something is dangerous. Our lives are dependent on the nature that surrounds us and the animals that live in it. Every animal or living thing, such as organisms, play such an important role in our lives and theirs. Everything affects how we act, how we feel, etc. So we can help to clean up this world to keep our fellow organisms alive to help up along and keep us living.

  4. Peril is "hazard," a source of danger-- in danger. Our biological resources not only include food, the most obvious need, but also air quality, climate control, water purification, pollination, erosion prevention, and medicines. If we lose these resources, not only may we lose our way of life as we know it, but we may cease to have life at all. We must try to maintain biodiversity. Overfishing, pollution-- all these are factors contributing to the decrease in biodiverisity. Fixing these will be one step further towards saving biodiversity. There is good news, however. According to the report, there are currently almost 170 nations with biodiversity strategies, and some conservation measures are showing results. The next two decades mark our world's future, and if we continue to contriubte new ideas and plans, our world will slowly improve.

  5. Peril is "exposure to harm or injury; danger; jeopardy". Humans depend on biological resources for their food, medicine, and quality of water and air. Species in an environment depend on each other for survival. This means that if one species begins to decline, it effects the entire environment, and eventually human health. Fortunately, governments recognize this problem. Nearly 170 countries now have biodiversity strategies, and many conservation efforts are successful.

  6. Biodiversity is decreasing due to humans destroying habitats and our overuse of natural resources. All species depend on each other so if one species is removed from an ecosystem then all species in the ecosystem will be impacted. Many animals are facing extinction and if they are lost, many other species will soon follow. To prevent the loss of species many countries have biodiversity strategies that show good results.

  7. Something in peril is something that is exposed to risk or harm. We are dependent on biological resources for their food supply, air quality, climate control, water purification, pollination, erosion prevention and medicines. The good news is that 170 countries now have national biodiversity strategies, and some conservation measures are showing results.

Peril is a situation of serious and immediate danger or something that causes, contains, or presents a threat. As humans, we are putting the Earth in peril. First, we greatly rely on its biological resources. We are dependent on it for our food supply, climate control, pollination, air quality, and water purification. Additionally, plant or animal sources provide the basis for approximately 25 percent of the medicine we use today. What must not be overlooked, however, is that species in an ecosystem depend on each other, leaving the entire system less resilient if one were to perish. Genes, species, and ecosystems -- all three measures of biodiversity – are already showing signs of decline due to human activity. There is reason to hope, however, in that approximately 170 countries have national biodiversity tactics in place. Some even have conservation policies that are beginning to show results.

  9. Peril means exposure to injury, loss, or destruction or something that causes or may cause injury, loss, or destruction. We are dependent on biological resources for their food supply, air quality, climate control, water purification, pollination, erosion prevention and medicines. The good news is that almost 170 countries now have national biodiversity strategies, and some conservation measures are showing results.

  10. Peril means lost or destroyed. Many of us are rely on the earth's natural biological resources. We depend on food supply, air, climate, water, erosion prevention and many medicines. 25 percent of the medicine we have today comes from animals. If animals habitats are destroyed, the animals will become extinct. This is bad because if those animals become extinct then we will not be able to use those medicines for our survival. We need to keep biodiversity in order because without it, our lives as humans can be lost. It is not fair for us to live with out habitats being untouched, and we should do the same for these animals.

  11. Peril is when a species is in a dangerous situation, and are at risk to survival. We are dependent on biological resources because we store balance between us humans and the Earth. A cycle of new animals, humans, and plants will then grow again. Together as a whole, we must stop polluting the air by burning fossils fuels, conserve energy by turning anything off when we are not using it, and we can install new products that save energy. This does not have to happen all at once, but if we start together now, we can save our planet from global warming.

  12. Peril means danger and loss. We are dependent on biological things such as trees and animals. Trees and animals helps to keep the environment in balance. Without trees there's no oxygen, without animals there are no trees. The good news is that up to 170 countries have biodiversity strategies, and the conversation measures are showing positive results.

  13. Peril means to be in danger of running out of something. There are a lot of species that are in peril, meaning that they are endangered and going to go extinct. This affects us beacuse we rely on some of these animals. To add more pressure some of the animals that we rely on might go away and it will destroy the cycle of how everything works. There are many species that are at risk of going away forever and as the most intelligent creatures on Earth, we humans need to find a way to save our natural life or else there will be many problems.

  14. Peril means that something is in danger of being harmed. There is a lot of biological peril occurring in the world today having to do with loss of habitat and pollution. This affects humans because our fresh water supply is being ruined and many of the plants used for medicines are being lost along with the forests that provide us with oxygen. Things that would help the situation would be cleaning up the environment and recycling so that less wild resources have to be destroyed.

  15. The word peril means to be in a situations of danger or a threat. The animals in ecosystems are in peril because they depend on one another, and losing any animals would be drastic. We are dependent on biological resources for our food supply, air qualtiy, climate control, water purification, pollination, erosion prevention, and medicines. We can stop overfishing and reduce polution. The good news is that almost 170 countries now have national biodiversity strategies.

  16. Peril means the danger of something/injury. Biological resources are important to us because it supplies us food, water purification, and air purification. However, we are constantly reducing the resources we have. We can fix this by taking measures to improve the conservation strategies. Good news is that many countries are already taking measures to conserve the resources.

  17. Peril means in trouble or in grave risk. Because of global warming and the overuse of limited products, the world is in peril. Humans and animals as well as plants are in jeopardy of losing their lives to diseases caused by pollution. We are dependent on biological resources because many medicines used today are made from plants or animals. Also, plants and animals are dependent on each other for survival. Simple steps can be taken to decrease the destruction of many species ecosystems. The burning of fossil fuels in cars present a problem within the atmosphere that can easily be subdued by riding a bike or using a more natural gas burning car. The good news is that over 150 countries are developing conservative strategies that are showing great results.

  18. Peril is when someone or something has a possibility of dying. It is when something like Global Warming puts the whole world in peril (danger). Because of carbon dioxide emissions, Global Warming occurs and it puts polar bears in danger, for example, because ice melts and they drown in the water. We are dependent on biological resources because they are the backbone of what we eat, breathe, and live on. Although there is much development, we still live on the earth and breathe. There are some ways to stop Global Warming. We can recycle, reuse, use smart cars, go to local farmers' markets, etc. The good news is that we can stop Global Warming and other things putting our planet in peril.
